Jefferey Michaelson, MD is a Board-Certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine, with a focus on knee, shoulder, and hip arthroscopy. He has developed a sterling reputation in the Southeast Michigan medical community and is respected for his expertise across Metro Detroit communities and health systems. He currently serves as Team Physician for Detroit Catholic Central High School and previously as Orthopedic Consultant for the Detroit Tigers and Madonna University.

Dr. Michaelson completed his fellowship in sports medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he worked with professional teams including the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland’s former WNBA team. He earned his MD at Wayne State University School of Medicine where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors and went on to complete his Orthopedic Surgery residency also at Wayne State University hospitals.

Recognized for his clinical expertise, Dr. Michaelson has been named among 150 Physicians to Know and 15 Surgeons to Know in Michigan by ASC Magazine, as well as a multiple-year Hour Detroit Top Doc. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Northwest Detroit Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program and was the founding Chairman of the Novi Bone and Joint Surgery Center.  Dr. Michaelson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an active member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Cleveland Clinic Warthog Society, and the Michigan Orthopaedic Society.

Outside of medicine, he volunteers on several community boards and is an avid triathlete and 3-time Ironman finisher. He is also known for his innovations both in orthopedics and in consumer medical products where he currently owns 5 patents.
