What to Expect

AT OFFICE VISITS

Your Time is Important

Due to the nature of orthopedic injuries, some days we may be asked to see urgent injuries that require time-sensitive treatment. This can cause some unpredictability in the office schedule. Motor City Orthopedics is also a regional center for referrals and we often see complex patients who have had multiple treatments elsewhere and this can require additional time for assessment. That said, we are aware and sensitive to the fact that your time is important and make every effort to get you in and out of the office as efficiently as possible. We are also committed to giving each patient sufficient time to perform an accurate assessment and ensure your understanding of your treatment plan. For these reasons, we recommend you plan to spend 90 minutes at our office for new visits and 45 to 60 minutes for follow-up visits.

Testing/Imaging

An xray is often required as part of your initial evaluation and these are performed in our office. If you have recently had xrays, please obtain those prior to your appointment as we prefer to avoid test repetition. However, the technique with which the xrays were obtained may be such that we need to repeat several views for proper diagnosis. Any imaging you have had previously, including xrays and MRI, is important to bring with you. Most imaging centers will send a report but we need to view the actual images to give you a thorough opinion so please ask for digital images to hand-carry from the facility they were performed.

Previous Surgery

Patients are sent to us from throughout the Midwest who have had treatment elsewhere or who are seeking a second opinion. We ask that surgical records (specifically any operative reports) as well as a timeline of every surgical procedure you have had pertaining to your problem be brought to your first visit, ideally sent prior to your visit to we can review before your evaluation.
