He then earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Notre Dame, graduating Cum Laude in 2003. He completed medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) in 2008. Dr. Knesek went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency through the St. John Providence Hospital System – Macomb/Oakland campus in 2013, followed by a fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstruction at the University of Chicago in 2014 with Dr. Henry Finn, with a heavy focus on complex primary and revision total knee and hip arthroplasty.
Dr. Knesek is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who has practiced in Southeast Michigan since 2014. He has worked closely with the Providence Henry Ford and Warren Henry Ford Orthopedic residencies, as well as previously with the DMC Orthopedic Residency and DMC Adult Reconstruction Fellowship program. He also serves as an associate clinical faculty instructor for MSUCOM. Dr. Knesek is active within the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics lecture series, presenting on topics ranging from painful total knees to the management of total hip and knee infections. He has been recognized by his peers as a Top Doc in Hour Detroit Magazine from 2018 to the present.
His practice is focused on hip and knee osteoarthritis using minimally invasive techniques, including the anterior approach for total hip arthroplasty, which he performs over 250–300 times per year. He also treats a variety of general orthopedic conditions, including fractures and sports injuries. In addition to minimally invasive hip and knee replacements, he has established a reputation for expertise in complex joint reconstruction and is frequently consulted by other surgeons across the state for patients with problematic hip and knee replacements. A significant portion of his practice focuses on revision hip and knee replacements, addressing conditions such as stiffness, instability, chronic pain, infections, and periprosthetic fractures.
Dr. Knesek was recruited to Ascension Providence in part to assist in launching their Mako robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement program, leveraging his years of robotic replacement experience at DMC. He is the highest-volume joint replacement surgeon at Ascension Providence, performing over 700 reconstruction cases annually. He is passionate about exercise, including weight training, yoga, and skiing, and advocates for overall self-wellness.
