Orthopedic Surgery Specialist
Kaitlyn E. Hefferan is a CAQ-certified and licensed Physician Assistant specializing in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, working primarily alongside Dr. Frush.
Kaitlyn was born and raised in Macomb, Michigan and attended Dakota High School where she received her varsity letter in both soccer and volleyball. Following graduation, she earned an academic scholarship to Western Michigan University with the dream of becoming a Physician Assistant. During her time at Western Michigan, Kaitlyn worked in the Intramural Sports Department managing different sports leagues and provided pre-hospital care for acute injuries. To further prepare clinically and academically for PA school, Kaitlyn became a licensed EMT in 2009 working for Pride Care in Kalamazoo, MI. Kaitlyn went on to graduate from Western Michigan University with academic honors in 2010.
In 2012, Kaitlyn returned home after completing PA school at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Her passion and love for sports led her to begin her career practicing in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Detroit Medical Center. Young in her career, Kaitlyn was quickly promoted to Lead Physician Assistant and held several positions on various hospital committees. Kaitlyn understands the valuable role Physician Assistants play in healthcare delivery and patient care and believes PAs should be held to the highest standard. Her passion for education and teaching evolved into the development and implementation of a 12-month Post Graduate Physician Assistant Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery. At the time, it was one of 3 programs in the nation. Within two months, the program was nationally recognized and she recruited her first two fellows shortly thereafter.
Kaitlyn is an outstanding clinician and brings a unique understanding of the rapidly changing business side of healthcare. She recently earned her MBA in Healthcare Management and is using those skills and knowledge to improve patient care and satisfaction. In 2018, Kaitlyn was selected as one of Crain’s Detroit Notable Women in Health Care. She was also a nominee for Crain’s Detroit 40 Under 40.
